19th C. Black Forest Carved Walnut Hunt Mirror with Dog, Game, and Grapes
$2,700
About
Decorate a study or hallway with this heavily carved antique mirror. Created in France circa 1880 and measuring just over two feet tall, the Black Forest frame features a boldly sculpted dog’s head at the crest, flanked by intricately rendered oak leaves and acorns. On either side of the oval mirror hang finely detailed carvings of game, a rabbit on one side, a pheasant on the other, while a cluster of grapes forms the pendant base, symbolizing abundance and the richness of nature. Hand-carved in solid walnut with exceptional depth and texture, this mirror exemplifies the hunt-themed artistry associated with the Black Forest tradition. The glass shows subtle silvering, and the wood has developed a warm, aged patina. Measuring 19.5 inches wide by 26.5 inches high, it remains in excellent antique condition and adds rustic elegance and sculptural presence to any study, wine room, or lodge-style interior.
