19th C. French Louis XVI Giltwood Mirror with Carved Corners & Geometric Decor
$3,700
About
Decorate a mantel, hallway, powder room or bedroom with this elegant antique giltwood mirror. Crafted in France circa 1860 and inspired by the Louis XVI style, the tall rectangular frame is designed for vertical or horizontal display. The richly carved surround features a continuous fluted pattern with stylized rope borders, punctuated at the corners with bold foliate scrolls and rosettes. The top corners are especially dynamic, each with a dramatic curling acanthus flourish that adds sculptural interest and neoclassical flair. Retaining its original gold leaf finish with a warm, time-softened patina, the mirror also features the original glass plate that is clear and highly reflective. The back is reinforced with wide horizontal wood planks, consistent with 19th-century French construction. Measuring 35.5 inches wide by 59 inches high and 3.5 inches deep, this refined mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. It brings both symmetry and brightness to traditional or transitional interiors.
