19th Century French Louis XV Carved Giltwood Mirror with Grape and Vine Motif
$3,900
About
Decorate a powder room, wine cellar, or entryway with this elegant 19th-century French gilt mirror. Crafted circa 1870, the Louis XV-style frame features a richly carved and pierced pediment adorned with scrolling vines, grape clusters, and leafy tendrils, an opulent cartouche symbolizing abundance and celebration. The top crest is flanked by delicately curling vine roots and foliage, adding depth and movement to the silhouette. The thick molded frame is further embellished with floral motifs in high relief at each bottom corner and retains its original gold leaf finish, now beautifully aged to a warm, time-softened patina. The mirror plate is original mercury glass, subtly mottled with age and framed by the original wood backing. A new hanging wire and hardware have been added to the back for secure wall installation. Measuring 31 inches wide by 53.25 inches high and 4 inches deep, this antique mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Versatile in scale and style, it would make a stunning focal point over a console, mantel, or as a refined accent in a living room.
