19th Century French Louis Philippe Carved Giltwood Mirror with Floral Motifs
$4,800
About
This refined antique wall mirror was crafted in France circa 1860, and features a carved giltwood frame adorned with floral garlands and scrolling foliage in high relief. The rounded corners and beaded inner trim emphasize the understated elegance of the Louis Philippe silhouette. Retaining its original mercury glass, the mirror surface exhibits a soft, silvery shimmer and subtle aging that lend depth and authenticity. The water-gilded finish has developed a warm, time-earned patina, with areas of wear revealing glimpses of red bole beneath the gold leaf. Standing over five feet tall and measuring 40.5 inches wide, 4 inches deep, and 62.5 inches high, this generously scaled piece is ideal for placement above a mantel, in an entryway, or as a commanding focal point in a dining room. The original wood back remains intact and bears a partially preserved label which reads “F. Blache, Quai Lafont, Lyon”, for further authentication. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. New hooks in the back for hanging.
