About
Dress a kitchen wall, dining room, or breakfast nook with this monumental antique French faience platter from Quimper, Brittany. Crafted circa 1880 and entirely hand-painted, the large circular platter features a vibrant foliated border in rich Breton palette, deep blues, saffron yellow, emerald green, garnet red, and black, encircling a pastoral central scene depicting Breton villagers with animals and a horse-drawn carriage. The underside is signed HB Quimper, identifying the work as part of the renowned Henriot production. Founded in 1690, Quimper’s faience tradition quickly became celebrated for its tin-glazed earthenware decorated with folkloric Breton subjects. By the 19th century, the Henriot workshop, later known as HB Henriot, was acclaimed for its distinctive hand-painted figures, bright palette, and decorative artistry. Each piece was decorated individually, making every platter unique. The large tray retains its period brass hanging hardware, allowing it to be displayed as wall art. Excellent overall condition commensurate with age. Hanging hardware intact. Dimensions: 22″diameter x 3H
