19th Century French Blue and White Faience Ewer with Courting Scene
$875
About
Bring classic European charm to a buffet, console, or dining-room display with this elegant antique French faience ewer, crafted in France circa 1880. Hand-painted in traditional cobalt blue on a warm white glaze, the pitcher features a baluster form richly decorated with scrolling floral motifs, geometric borders, and pastoral vignettes of courting couples and sailboats. The neck is adorned with a sculpted bearded male mask, a whimsical detail typical of 19th-century provincial pottery. The shaped handle shows delicate blue striping, while the footed base is embellished with stylized arches and botanical flourishes. The underside bears a painter’s mark, “A / 28.” The tall pitcher is in very good condition with light glaze irregularities consistent with age and use, enhancing its timeworn character. Repair on the handle. See detailed images. Dimensions: 6.5″ W x 5.5″ D x 13.75″ H
