Mid-Century German Studio Pottery Ceramic Vase by Töpferei Ceramano
$1,300
About
Circa 1970, this striking antique stoneware vase was crafted in West Germany by the renowned ceramics factory Scheurich Keramik. The tall vessel features a classic baluster silhouette with a flared neck and rounded shoulder, giving the piece a strong sculptural presence ideal for a console, entryway, or floor display. The vase is made of high-fired stoneware and decorated with a dramatic volcanic “fat lava” glaze, characteristic of West German studio pottery of the period. Rich chocolate brown tones appear at the rim and shoulder, while the body is covered in a heavily textured cream and caramel glaze that bubbles and erupts across the surface, creating deep cratered openings and organic patterns. A molded band of scrolling ornament around the shoulder adds subtle relief and structure to the dynamic glaze decoration. The underside bears the impressed mark “127-40 W. Germany,” indicating the Scheurich model number and the original height in centimeters. West German pottery of this era is widely collected for its bold glazing techniques and distinctive mid-century design. Excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use, with beautiful original glaze and strong decorative presence. Dimensions: 9.5″ Diameter x 16″ H.
