Mid-Century French Maison Jansen Brass and Steel Coffee Table with Glass Top
$3,200
About
This elegant French coffee table by Maison Jansen was crafted circa 1960 and reflects the refined neoclassical aesthetic for which the celebrated Paris firm became internationally known. The rectangular table features a clear inset glass top set within a slender parcel-gilt frame, allowing the architectural metal base to remain fully visible. The base rises on four columnar legs combining gilt capitals and tapered feet with steel-toned shafts, creating a sophisticated two-tone contrast. Gracefully curved oval stretchers connect the legs and are joined by a central crossbar, adding both structural stability and visual rhythm to the composition. The restrained ornamentation and balanced proportions recall Louis XVI and Directoire design interpreted through mid-century materials. The table is in excellent vintage condition commensurate with age and use, with light wear consistent with careful preservation. Maison Jansen, founded in Paris in 1880 by Jean-Henri Jansen, became one of the first truly international interior design houses, serving aristocratic and diplomatic clients across Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. Pieces such as this coffee table illustrate the firm’s mastery of classical design translated into elegant modern furnishings. Dimensions: 37″W x 19.25″D x 16.5″H
