19th Century French Desvres Majolica Rose Cachepot Jardinière
$2,400
About
This antique French majolica cachepot from Desvres, crafted circa 1900, presents a richly sculptural jardinière form inspired by a blooming garden. The vessel is modeled with a dense ring of hand-applied white rosebuds encircling the rim, each delicately shaped with curled petals and highlighted with warm ochre edging that enhances depth and definition. Below, the body is formed as an upright cluster of elongated green leaves, rising naturally to support the floral crown and creating a cohesive, organic silhouette. The piece is executed in glazed faience, with a luminous finish that accentuates the crisp detailing of the applied decoration. The interior remains smooth and white, offering a clean contrast to the richly textured exterior. The underside bears the Desvres stamp, linking it to one of northern France’s most noted ceramic traditions, known for expressive majolica production. This antique cachepot is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor irregularities consistent with its handcrafted nature. Ideal as a jardinière or decorative vessel, it brings a fresh yet refined French presence to a kitchen, breakfast room, or seasonal table arrangement. Dimensions: 13” Diameter x 14”H
