About
Place this elegant antique French hall tree in an entry or mud room to introduce both function and architectural presence. Crafted in Charleville circa 1870 during the Napoleon III period, the freestanding stand is executed in finely cast iron with a dramatic Rococo silhouette, featuring intricate scrolling foliage, pierced openwork, and richly detailed ornament throughout.
The tall foliate frame centers an adjustable oval mirror and is fitted with multiple double hooks, offering ample space for coats, hats, and umbrellas while maintaining a light, sculptural rhythm. A shaped shelf with scrolled supports provides a convenient surface for gloves or small accessories. Below, the base incorporates an integrated umbrella stand with a painted iron drip tray, designed to catch water and protect surrounding surfaces; the contrasting light-toned insert adds visual interest against the dark metal structure.
Signed in cast at the base “Corneau Alfred N° 30 A Charleville,” the piece was produced by the renowned Ardennes foundry established in 1846, known for its exceptional decorative ironwork. The antique hall stand is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and presents a rich, time-softened patinated finish that highlights the crisp quality of the casting.
