About
Add a vibrant focal point to a wall with this expressive antique French landscape painting by Jacques Lamy, created circa 1970. Executed on canvas, the composition features a stylized countryside scene with a small architectural structure set among rolling hills, flanked by bold vertical trees in vivid red tones. The palette of warm ochres, soft blues, and contrasting dark accents creates a lively, modern interpretation of a pastoral setting.
The painting is signed in the lower right by the artist and presented in a substantial carved wood frame with a distressed white painted finish, revealing warm undertones and traces of gilt throughout. The textured surface and layered application of paint reflect Lamy’s distinctive approach, inspired by traditional fresco techniques.
The artwork is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear to the frame consistent with its decorative, timeworn finish. A strong decorative piece, ideal for a living room, office, or entryway where color and character are desired.
Jacques Lamy (1946–2016) was born in Paris and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. Awarded the Prix de Rome in 1971, he spent years studying Classical and Renaissance fresco techniques before developing his own signature method. By applying pigment onto damp plaster layered over burlap, Lamy achieved a luminous, fresco-like surface using modern materials. He taught extensively throughout Europe and Africa before settling in the United States in 1985, and became known for both his paintings and large-scale trompe l’oeil murals exhibited in prominent galleries.
