Use this large elegantly carved bench for extra seating in a hallway, or at the end of a large king size bed. Crafted in southern France circa 1860, the antique giltwood bench features graceful curves and ornate carving that are hallmarks of French furniture design from the 18th century. The bench stands on eight cabriole legs decorated with leaf motifs at the shoulder and ending in whorl feet. The bombe scalloped apron is decorated with hand carved scroll and floral motifs throughout, and further embellished with floral rosette medallions at each end. The narrow seat is upholstered with a light blue fabric, embellished with ribbon trim. The long Louis XV bench is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated gold leaf finish with with some red showing through.
Such benches were often used in salons or boudoirs, designed to provide both comfort and aesthetic elegance. This particular piece exudes the charm of French aristocratic taste, blending function with opulent design, perfect for a traditional or antique-inspired interior setting.
