About
19th Century French Faience Divided Serving Tray in the Rouen taste. Crafted in France circa 1880, this elegant antique faience serving piece features a rectangular divided form with softly scalloped edges and shaped corners, raised on an undulating base. The hand-painted decoration is inspired by traditional Rouen faience motifs, showcasing intricate polychrome floral garlands, scrolling arabesques, and geometric lattice borders in vibrant tones of cobalt blue, iron red, soft green, and golden yellow. The larger compartment is centered with a richly detailed floral basket motif, while the smaller sections are adorned with delicate botanical sprays.
The piece is further embellished with textured side handles in a yellow ochre glaze and finished with a deep cobalt border accentuating the shaped silhouette. With its divided interior, the tray would be ideal for serving hors d’oeuvres, sweets, or condiments, while also functioning beautifully as a decorative centerpiece on a buffet or dining table.
The antique Desvres faience tray is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich hand-painted colors throughout. Marked on the underside with a blue painter’s monogram.
