Mid-Century Italian Hand-Painted Majolica Umbrella Stand with Hunt Scene
$750
About
Decorate an entryway or mudroom with this colorful mid-century majolica umbrella stand. Crafted in Italy circa 1950, the tall cylindrical vessel is hand-painted in vibrant blue, green, yellow, and ochre tones over a cream glazed background. The faience holder features lively hunting and equestrian scenes including a horseback rider, stag, and winding trees set within a pastoral landscape. Both the upper and lower borders are decorated with scrolling foliate motifs in the Renaissance taste, accented with rich cobalt blue and mustard yellow bands.
The antique-inspired umbrella stand has a gently flared form with a glazed interior and substantial weight, making it ideal for canes, umbrellas, or walking sticks. The hand-painted decoration and vivid palette bring warmth and character to both traditional and Mediterranean-style interiors. The majolica vessel is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich colors throughout with minor surface wear consistent with age.
