Elegant and airy in profile, this antique French étagère combines graceful scrollwork with the practical versatility of four generous display shelves. Crafted in France circa 1970, the tall freestanding rack is constructed of wrought iron with an attractive naturally aged patinated finish and fitted with four removable glass shelves.

The open framework is richly embellished with hand-forged scrolling motifs extending along the sides, back, and upper gallery. Long sinuous curves and tightly rolled volutes give the piece a distinctly French decorative character while maintaining a light architectural presence. Small turned brass collars punctuate several of the scrolling iron elements, providing subtle warm contrast against the dark metalwork.

Crowning the étagère is a decorative gilt-brass wheat sheaf motif centered beneath the arched upper frame, an appealing reference to the traditional French harvest vocabulary frequently found in decorative furnishings of the period. The four rectangular glass shelves provide ample space for displaying ceramics, books, barware, plants, or a collection of decorative objects.
