19th C. French Silver-Plated Monogrammed Tray by Pelloutier & Cie, Dated 1894
$1,600
About
Refined engraving and handsome proportions distinguish this antique French serving tray by Pelloutier & Cie. Crafted in France circa 1894, the rectangular silver-plated tray is fitted with two substantial side handles decorated with scrolling foliage.
The broad surface features intricate engraved arabesques, floral motifs, and delicate crosshatched ornament arranged around a central monogram. Each corner is enriched with repoussé leaf decoration, while a shaped and molded border frames the composition. The elaborate workmanship creates a richly decorative surface while preserving ample space for serving drinks, displaying decanters, or arranging objects on a buffet or bar.
The tray is signed “Pelloutier & Cie,” a 19th-century Parisian firm associated with silversmith Marius Pelloutier. It also bears the maker’s hallmark depicting a bee beneath two stars, further identifying its manufacture.
The large tray is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a lustrous silver-plated finish with an attractive, naturally developed patina. Minor surface wear is consistent with its age and original function.
