This substantial antique copper cauldron offers beautiful hand-worked construction and a richly developed surface patina. Crafted in France circa 1860, the large round vessel was fashioned from heavy copper sheets using traditional hand-hammering and riveting techniques.

The slightly tapered cylindrical body is finished with an irregular rolled rim and a rounded lower profile. A prominent vertical seam is secured with a series of hand-hammered copper rivets, while an additional riveted band encircles the lower body. The band is decorated with repeating repoussé foliate motifs, adding an appealing ornamental detail to the otherwise utilitarian form. Visible hammer marks, old dents, oxidation, subtle traces of verdigris, and variations in tone give the copper its wonderfully authentic, time-worn character.

Originally made as a functional household or agricultural vessel, the generously scaled antique pot now makes an impressive jardinière, planter, or cache pot for a large indoor plant or small tree. It would also work beautifully as a firewood container beside a fireplace or as a sculptural decorative accent in a conservatory, garden room, or covered terrace.

The antique copper cauldron is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm, naturally aged patina throughout.
