Early 20th Century French Louis XIII Beech Barley Twist Floor Lamp with Table
$1,950
About
Richly carved and beautifully proportioned, this antique floor lamp reflects the bold character of Louis XIII design while incorporating a practical circular side table. Crafted in France circa 1930, the tall lamp is made of carved beech wood with a deep dark patinated finish and features an elongated barley twist standard accented with gadrooned and turned details.
The circular table is positioned midway along the column, providing a convenient surface beside a reading chair or sofa. The top measures 25 inches in diameter and is decorated with a carved foliate border and molded edge. Beneath, the substantial pedestal is embellished with acanthus leaf carving, fluted and beaded details, and rests on a broad circular base carved with additional foliate motifs and raised on small feet.
Above the table, the barley twist column continues upward through carved urn-form elements to the lighting fixture. The lamp is fitted with brass hardware and a floor switch along the cord and has been wired for modern use.
The antique floor lamp is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and displays a warm patina that emphasizes the depth of the carving. Both functional and decorative, this Louis XIII style lamp would work beautifully beside a club chair, sofa, or reading area. Shade not included.
