About
This antique French Louis XVI style bouillotte table combines finely detailed gilt bronze ornamentation with the rich tones of polished mahogany. Crafted in France circa 1880, the tall, round occasional table features a circular green veined marble top enclosed within a pierced brass gallery. The apron beneath is embellished with an elaborate continuous band of gilt bronze mounts featuring scrolling floral garlands, ribbons, and neoclassical motifs.
The upper section is supported by three gracefully curved mahogany supports extending to a circular lower shelf, beautifully veneered with a radial marquetry design centered on a contrasting round medallion. A matching pierced brass gallery surrounds the shelf, while decorative gilt bronze rosettes accent the junctions of the supports.
Below, three slender, tapered and fluted legs are fitted with brass collars and terminate in spiral-carved feet with brass sabots. A shaped triangular stretcher connects the legs near the base, providing both stability and architectural interest.
The antique guéridon is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a rich mahogany patina and finely detailed gilt bronze mounts. With its two practical display surfaces and slender proportions, this refined Louis XVI accent table would make a distinctive addition to a living room, library, or bedroom.
