Large Early 19th Century French Terracotta Olive Jar from Provence

$5,200

About

This large, antique earthenware olive jar was created in Southern France, circa 1830. Made of blond clay and neutral in color, the terracotta vase has a traditional round shape. The rustic, time-worn pot features features a pale ochre glaze around the rolled rim neck and a natural beige tone throughout the body. Overall, this tall Provincial ceramic jar is in excellent condition and has a rich, aged patinated finish. Drainage holes available upon request at no extra charge. In the south of France and especially in Biot (small village on the French Riviera), these olive pots are also known as the “king of jars,” and were used to transport olive oil in the 17th and 18th century. Measures: 28″ diameter 41″ height.
