About
Rich in character and traditional Spanish craftsmanship, this antique Baroque trestle coffee table features a beautifully aged walnut top supported by sculptural carved legs and an unusual forged iron stretcher. Crafted in Spain circa 1780, the rectangular table is constructed of solid walnut and features a thick two-plank top bordered by finely carved scrolling foliage and floral motifs along the edges.
The substantial tabletop rests on two decorative trestle supports, each featuring boldly shaped, pierced and scrolled legs connected by a carved horizontal stretcher with stepped detailing and rounded terminals. The two supports are joined by a distinctive forged iron cross stretcher with gracefully curved rods, circular collars, and ring details, providing structural stability while adding an appealing contrast to the warm wood.
The expansive surface displays a deep, lustrous walnut patina, with visible grain, old marks, scratches, and natural imperfections accumulated over centuries of use. These variations contribute to the table’s authentic antique character and rustic appeal.
The Spanish Baroque coffee table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining its rich dark walnut finish and beautifully sculpted silhouette. With its generous proportions and low profile, this distinctive antique table would make a wonderful centerpiece in a living room, library, or country residence.
