The elegant faience piece is in excellent condition with rich painted colors in a Classic blue, green, white and yellow palette. Signed “Gien” on the underside for further authentication. The Faïencerie de Gien is a faience (or earthenware) factory in Gien, France which was founded in 1821 by Thomas Edme Hulm. The company became known as “Gien Faiencerie” in 1875 when it became a public company. Production first began with functional tableware, and then went on to make fancier dinnerware, decorative pieces and tableware emblazoned with notable families’ coats of arms, calling on the Savoir-Faire of talented potters. The peak of the production of faience of Gien took place between 1855 and 1900 at the time of the famous Universal Exhibitions, during which the company won numerous awards. Measures: 15″ W x 13″ D x 12.5″ H.
