17th Century Italian Carved Cassone Trunk with Drawers and Inside Carved Panel

This elegant antique coffer was crafted in Italy, circa 1680; standing on curved feet, the trunk is heavily carved on all three sides with arch and foliage decor; it features three carved panels on the facade including a small door on the right panel fitted with three inside drawers. When opened and secured with side ledger, the inside top is decorated with carved raised panels and similar carvings. The trunk is upholstered with red velvet and has wonderful storage compartments. The cassone is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Two keys included.
