19th C. French Louis XVI Painted and Gilt Trumeau Mirror with Beveled Glass
$3,200
About
Crafted in France circa 1870, this elegant antique trumeau mirror exemplifies the refined ornamentation of the Louis XVI style. The painted and parcel-gilt wood frame is crowned with a classical bas-relief composition featuring crossed torches and oak branches bound by a ribbon, symbols of enlightenment and strength. Rosette medallions anchor each corner of the upper panel, while finely carved scrollwork and acanthus flourishes frame the original glass below. The muted gray-green painted surface is gently distressed, providing soft contrast to the warm gilt accents. The original mercury glass mirror with beveled glass shows subtle silvering and light aging, enhancing its authentic antique character. Measuring over 6 feet tall (73.25 inches high by 50 inches wide), this imposing 19th-century French mirror makes a commanding statement above a mantel, console, or sideboard. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich patina and timeless neoclassical appeal.
