About
Decorate a shelf or a man’s office desk with this stately antique marble lion sculpture. Created in Italy circa 1890, and hand carved of variegated marble, the large figure depicts a proud lion laying on integral rectangular base with its mouth opened as if it is preparing to give a mighty roar; the sculpture is further signed by the artist, P. Ruggeri. The big cat sculpture dressed with glass eyes, features wonderful detailed carvings especially through the paws and mouth. The important sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a beautiful patinated finish and different shades of grey and white marble. The lion traditionally symbolizes courage, nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness and valor, because historically the lion has been regarded as the “king of beasts”. The lion also carries Judeo-Christian symbolism. 19″W x 7.75″D x 13.75″ H
