19th Century French Louis-Philippe Walnut Five-Drawer Chest with Gray Marble Top

About
This authentic antique French Louis Philippe chest dates to circa 1870 and is crafted in beautifully figured walnut. The façade is veneered in striking burr (ronce) walnut, presenting rich movement in the grain and a warm, time-softened patina. The clean, architectural lines and restrained molding are characteristic of the Louis Philippe period, emphasizing proportion and material over ornament. The chest is fitted with four graduated drawers above and a concealed fifth drawer housed within the plinth. Four original keys are included, and the drawers feature traditional keyhole cutouts typical of the period. Grain continuity across the drawer fronts is excellent, while the sides are finished in solid or plain walnut veneer, consistent with quality mid-19th-century French construction. The piece is topped with a dark gray veined marble top with a molded edge, offering elegant contrast while remaining period appropriate. The marble shows natural veining and surface character consistent with age. The chest is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Grounded on the plinth base, this piece provides generous storage and a timeless Louis Philippe silhouette well suited for a bedroom, entry hall, or refined interior.
