19th Century French Louis XIII Chestnut and Oak Refectory Monastery Dining Table
$17,000
About
This exceptional antique French refectory farm table was crafted in southern France circa 1880 from solid old-growth chestnut and oak. The remarkable two-plank top showcases the natural beauty of centuries-old wood, with pronounced grain, knots, age separations, and visible tool marks that speak to its rural origins and honest craftsmanship. The thick surface retains a warm, richly developed patina with softly worn edges and surface variation consistent with generations of use. The table rests on a robust trestle base with sculpted feet and a substantial through-tenon stretcher secured with exposed wooden wedges, providing excellent stability and strong architectural presence. Traditional pegged joinery and bold proportions reflect classic 19th century French provincial construction. Designed to comfortably seat eight to ten people, this antique refectory table works beautifully as a dining table, harvest table, or large kitchen centerpiece. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with old repairs and wear that enhance its authenticity and character. Dimensions: 88.75″W x 32.75″D x 29.5″H
