19th Century French Louis XV Carved Mahogany Prayer Bench with Velvet Upholstery
Place this elegant antique prayer chair in a bedroom for your daily devotions. Crafted in France, circa 1960, the traditional mahogany kneeler sits on cabriole legs ending with escargot feet over a scalloped apron decorated with a carved shell and foliage. The chair with a wide and cushioned seat features a tall back decorated with a hand carved cross at the center flanked by intricate carvings on all sides. The armrest and seat are dressed with a blue velvet upholstery, and embellished with decorative nail heads. The worship “Prie-Dieu” (French for Praying God) is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich dark walnut patina. Looks like the fabric was replaced very recently, and is in perfect condition. Measures: 21″ W x 17″ D x 34.25″ H.
