19th Century French Louis XV Carved Painted Corner Cabinet from Provence
$5,200
About
This elegant, antique corner cabinet was carved in Southern France, circa 1880. The classic “Encoignure” exemplifies the Louis XV style with a heavy presence, dramatic lines and intricate floral and foliage carvings throughout. The buffet stands on small cabriole legs ending with escargot feet, over a scalloped apron heavily decorated with two crossed branches with leaf motifs. The cabinet features a single rotating drawer, across the front dressed with forged iron handles, over hand carved laurel and oak branch decor. The buffet has large panel made to imitate two arched doors with recessed panels dressed with decorative oversized iron hinges and large decorative openwork escutcheons; the center door revolves open to interior shelving for ultimate storage. The scalloped top surface is the perfect place to display porcelain objects, frames, and more. This unique piece would make an excellent use as bar cabinet, to store all your bottles and tools, or place in a corner of a breakfast room! The cabinet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a well-maintained original pale blue patinated finish. Key included. Measures: 38″ W x 25″ D x 38.5″ H.
