19th Century French Louis XVI Style Silver Plated Bread Basket with Swing Handle
$850
About
This elegant antique bread basket was crafted in France circa 1880. Made of silver-plated metal, the oval form is raised on a molded pedestal foot and fitted with a hinged swing handle that can be displayed upright or lowered neatly along the rim.
The interior is decorated with deep radiating fluting arranged in a graceful shell-like pattern, creating attractive reflections across the silvered surface. A pierced gallery surrounds the upper edge, while continuous beaded decoration accents the rim, handle, and base. Circular rosette mounts secure the handle on each side and complete the refined late 19th century design.
Originally used for serving bread or rolls at the table, the piece would make a wonderful decorative accent today. It could be placed on a dining table or buffet as a bread basket, or used as a vide-poche on a console, entry table, or dresser for keys, correspondence, and other small objects.
The Louis XVI style French basket is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light surface wear and a rich patinated silver finish throughout.
Dimensions: 12″ W x 9″ D x 4″ H, excluding raised handle.
