19th Century French Marble and Bronze Rooster Sculpture Signed Melotte
Decorate your desk or study with this elegant antique inkwell, crafted in France, circa 1880, and situated on a rectangular green marble base, the desk accessory features a bronze rooster standing on a small square base. The bird figure with detailed plumage is signed on the back by the artist, Melotte. The inkwell is flanked by a pair of ink containers with the original enamel ink holders. The containers have their matching, decorative hinged lids which are embellished with carved acanthus leaf motifs and top finials. The inkwell has a traditional Empire style design, a deep curve at the front for pen rest, and sits on four small, round turned feet at the bottom. The piece is in excellent condition with a rich patinated finish.
