19th Century French Rouen Revival Faience Covered Urn with Ram Masks
$261
About
Decorate a console or mantel with this colorful antique faience urn. Crafted in France circa 1880, the covered vessel is executed in the Rouen revival taste, showcasing a richly hand-painted decor of scrolling foliage, stylized florals, and intricate arabesques in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, green, yellow, and iron red. The bombe-form body is embellished on both sides with sculpted ram head masks in relief, their curled horns highlighted in yellow glaze, a classic motif inspired by 18th century Rouen faience. The composition is structured with balanced symmetry and framed by decorative bands at the neck and base, all resting on a stepped circular foot. The urn retains its original fitted lid topped with a rounded finial. The antique ceramic piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with rich coloration and a beautifully aged craquelure throughout the glazed surface; the underside bears the painted initials “AF.” Elegant and versatile, the lidded vessel can be placed on a buffet, entry console, or library cabinet as a refined decorative accent. Dimensions: 10″W x 8.5″D x 17″H
