About
This elegant antique French ostensoir, crafted circa 1860, is executed in finely cast and silvered bronze and retains its original fitted wooden storage case. Designed for Eucharistic adoration, the piece features a radiant sunburst form centered by a circular glass lunette framed in gilt bronze, allowing the consecrated Host to be displayed. The quatrefoil surround is adorned with finely modeled cherub heads at each corner, adding sculptural depth and devotional symbolism. A Latin cross rises above the radiating gilt rays, creating a dramatic vertical silhouette. The shaft is beautifully turned with classical baluster and fluted elements, transitioning to a square stepped base engraved with a radiant triangle motif and resting on four foliate feet. The contrast between the warm gilt rays and the softly aged silvered surface gives the antique piece wonderful dimension and presence. The hinged glass compartment opens smoothly, and the underside retains its original access panel. The silvered finish shows gentle wear and patina consistent with age and liturgical use, enhancing its authentic antique character. The original wooden case, shaped with a chapel-like peaked top, opens on brass hinges and includes interior supports to secure the base during storage and transport. The box presents a rich, dark finish with surface wear appropriate to its age. A refined and devotional antique object, ideal for collectors of ecclesiastical art or for display within a chapel setting or curated sacred collection. Dimensions (Monstrance): 8.5”W x 4.5”D x 18.5”H Dimensions (Box – Exterior): 9.5”W x 5.25”D x 20”H
