19th Century French Yellow Glazed Confit Pot Table Lamp with Custom Shade
$1,800
About
Bring warm Country French character to a bedroom, living room, or console table with this antique French confit pot table lamp from the Périgord region. Crafted circa 1880, the earthenware vessel features a rich mustard-yellow glazed upper body with side handles, a rounded lid, and a rustic unglazed lower section with time-softened surface texture. This traditional two-tone finish is especially desirable, reflecting how these utilitarian pots were originally glazed only on the upper portion while the lower half remained unglazed for storage in cool larders or partially buried conditions.
The antique confit pot has been thoughtfully converted into a decorative table lamp, standing on a painted wood base and newly wired for use. It is dressed with a custom shade and matching yellow finial, creating a warm, inviting accent perfect for a French country interior, farmhouse bedroom, library, or side table. Confit pots were once used in rural French homes to preserve duck, goose, and other meats before refrigeration, giving this piece wonderful history as well as decorative appeal. The lamp is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with custom shade and finial included.
