This beautiful antique faience dish was crafted and painted in Normandy, France, circa 1880. The stylized ceramic plate has a scalloped edge and depicts a courting scene with a violinist teaching a young woman how to dance. The French motto reads: “si tu veux apprendre la danse, il faut payer un mois d’avance” “if you want to learn how to dance, you must pay a month in advance.” This hanging, porcelain wall platter is embellished with colorful cornucopia and other natural motifs around the periphery.
