19th Century Hand-Painted Oval Platter with Handles from Rouen with French Motto

$525

About

This beautiful antique faience dish was crafted and painted in Normandy, France, circa 1880. The stylized ceramic plate has a scalloped edge and depicts a courting scene with a violinist teaching a young woman how to dance. The French motto reads: “si tu veux apprendre la danse, il faut payer un mois d’avance” “if you want to learn how to dance, you must pay a month in advance.” This hanging, porcelain wall platter is embellished with colorful cornucopia and other natural motifs around the periphery. The piece is in excellent condition with gracious lines and rich colors throughout the composition. Measures: 15.25″ W x 10.5″ H. SKU: 172-35
