Early 20th C. Bronze Horse Sculpture Signed Milo and J. B. Paris Foundry Stamp

$2,800

About

This elegant antique bronze sculpture of a standing horse was cast in France in the early 20th century and is signed “Milo” on the naturalistic base. The piece is mounted on a shaped black marble plinth and bears the foundry mark “Bronze Garanti Paris J.B. Déposée,” indicating it was produced by a reputable Parisian foundry known for its fine casting quality. Though unsigned with a first name, the artist seems to be Milo Martin (1893–1970), a Swiss sculptor listed in the Benezit and known to have worked with Paris foundries. His animal studies often exhibit a classical grace, as seen in the poised stance, muscular detail, and finely rendered mane of this spirited horse. The surface retains a warm brown patina that enhances the sculpture’s depth and realism. Listed in the Benezit (see last picture). Measuring 11.5” wide by 6.75” deep and 11.5” high, this finely executed bronze is a refined addition to any library, study, or equestrian collection. In excellent condition with light wear to the marble consistent with age.
