Crafted in France circa 1920, this two-piece white marble bust on a quartz base is a true representation of French elegance. The figural sculpture features the visage of a beautiful, young girl in a lace dress with delicately posed hands. There are a number of intricate, realistic details throughout her face, hair and clothing. The carving of the young woman is made of an exquisite white marble and the bust rest on a marvelous white quartz plinth. Place this elegant antique bust on a console or a pedestal for a Classic display technique. The large, personalized bust is excellent condition, has a rich patinated finish, and is signed on the back by the artist, A. Gory (Affortunato Gory). Affortunato Gory, (1885-1925) was born in Florence. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence under Augusto Rivalta. In the beginning of the 20th century he moved to Paris and completed his education under Victorien-Antoine Basset. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1902, 1904, 1912, 1914 and 1923. His artistic oeuvre consists of sculptures of young women, children and some notable historical figures like Rembrandt en Dante. He worked in Classic materials marble, bronze, ivory, often combining these materials in so-called chryselephantine figures. Measures: 12″ W x 8″ D x 21.25″ H.
