Early 20th Century French Oak and Gilt Metal Hall Tree Coat Rack
$1,400
About
Bring elegant craftsmanship to an entryway, mudroom, or dressing room with this handsome antique hall tree. Crafted in France circa 1920, the freestanding coat rack is built of solid oak and features a turned central standard rising from a beautifully carved tripod base with scrolling acanthus-form feet. The warm oak displays a rich, mellow patina that complements the finely detailed gilt metal hardware. The upper section is fitted with three decorative cast gilt metal assemblies issuing multiple curved coat and hat hooks enriched with foliate, fluted, and scrolling motifs. The generous arrangement provides ample space for coats, hats, scarves, handbags, or belts while maintaining an airy and sculptural profile. A boldly turned oak finial crowns the standard, while ornate metal mounts secure the hooks and introduce an elegant Louis XV-inspired flourish. The carved tripod base provides stability while enhancing the silhouette with deeply carved scrollwork and molded details. Standing an impressive 76 inches high with a compact 20-inch diameter footprint, this versatile hall tree, coat rack, or hat stand is ideally suited for an entry, foyer, bedroom, office, or boutique. The antique coat rack is in very good condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a rich oak patina with beautifully aged gilt metal mounts. One gilt metal hook arm has an old visible repair near its lower curved section, as shown in the photographs, but is very sturdy and does not affect the use. Dimensions: 20” Diameter × 76” H
