Early 20th Century French Silvered Spelter Crucifix and Removable Figures
$825
About
This striking French crucifix, crafted circa 1920, is made of spelter with a silvered finish and presents a richly detailed depiction of the Crucifixion. At its center is a finely modeled figure of Christ on a radiating cross adorned with relief medallions of the Four Evangelists at each end. Behind the corpus, a dramatic sunburst motif adds spiritual radiance and visual depth. The base is elevated and architectural in design, featuring rounded columns, acanthus scrollwork, and deeply cast biblical scenes in relief. Two removable side figures—likely the Virgin Mary and St. John—stand reverently on either side of the cross, enhancing the devotional presence of the piece. Both figures are cast separately and fit neatly into sockets at the base, allowing for easy disassembly and transport. The reverse of the cross is plain and exhibits signs of age and oxidation, appropriate for a piece of its vintage. In overall good condition with minor surface wear, this silver-coated spelter crucifix remains a powerful symbol of faith and a distinguished example of early 20th-century French religious art. Ideal for display on an altar, mantel, or within a sacred space. 17.5″H
