Large Mid-Century French Bleach Oak Trestle Refectory Monastery Dining Table
$16,000
About
Make a grand statement in a dining room or wine cellar with this monumental antique table. Made with 18th century wood and crafted in France circa 1950, the ten-foot-long rectangular top is built from solid bleached oak planks over three inches thick, and secured with traditional tenon and peg joinery. The thick surface is embellished with four decorative wrought iron diamond-shaped nails, adding a subtle accent to the rustic charm of the piece. The heavy table stands on sculpted trestle supports joined by a wide center stretcher, and ending on broad shoe feet, each base further decorated with a matching wrought iron diamond motif. A maker’s stamp reading “F. Douillard” appears on the underside, identifying the work of a skilled mid 20th-century French artisan known for producing substantial provincial furniture in solid oak. The piece showcases a warm, natural patina and visible grain patterns that highlight its age and authenticity. Rich in texture and character, the bleached finish reveals the natural grain and warm honey undertones of aged French oak. This impressive monastery table will comfortably seat twelve to fourteen guests and is in excellent condition with a mellow patina commensurate with age and use. Measures: 120″ W x 35.5″ D x 31″ H
