Mid-19th Century French Louis Philippe Giltwood Wall Mirror
$4,600
About
Striking in scale and refined in design, this antique Louis Philippe wall mirror was crafted in France circa 1870. The tall rectangular form features softly rounded upper corners and a graceful serpentine crest, a distinctive silhouette associated with the Louis Philippe period.
The broad molded giltwood frame is finished in warm gold leaf and accented along the mirror plate with a delicate repeating foliate border. Subtle variations in the gilding, visible red-bole undertones, fine craquelure, and areas of gentle rubbing contribute to the beautifully aged surface and authentic character of the frame.
The large flat mirror plate is a later replacement, providing a clear reflection while preserving the character of the original mid-19th-century frame. The reverse is fitted with wood backing covered in protective fabric.
Designed for vertical display, this substantial antique mirror would make a striking focal point above a large fireplace mantel or console, or in an entry hall, dressing room, bedroom, or between tall windows. Its generous proportions add light, depth, and architectural presence to an interior.
The mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
