Add color, movement, and exotic character to a console or center table with this unusual vintage Chinese porcelain vase. Crafted in China circa 1960, the substantial vessel features a tall cylindrical body, stepped shoulder, elongated neck, and wide flared rim.

The vase is meticulously hand-painted with lively European fox-hunting scenes. Riders in traditional hunting attire gallop across the countryside on horseback, accompanied by energetic packs of hounds. Rural buildings, flowering trees, pagodas, and distant mountain peaks create a richly detailed landscape around the figures. Additional hunting scenes encircle the neck, allowing the vase to be admired from every angle.

Bold cobalt-blue chilong dragons applied around the shoulder and beneath the rim add sculptural dimension to the composition. Elaborate gilt scrollwork, foliate borders, and jewel-like accents frame the painted reserves and contrast beautifully against the deep blue ground. The colorful Famille Rose palette incorporates pink, green, rust, lavender, and gold over a glazed white porcelain ground.

Substantial in scale, this decorative vase would make a distinctive focal point in an entryway, living room, or collection of antique and vintage Asian ceramics. It is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. A six-character red reign-style seal mark appears on the underside.
