Mid-20th Century French Carved Giltwood Sunburst Convex Wall Mirror

About
This striking vintage sunburst wall mirror was crafted in Versailles, France, circa 1970. Designed with a dramatic radiating silhouette, the decorative mirror features an array of beautifully carved leaf-shaped rays surrounding a circular convex mirror plate, creating a sculptural composition inspired by traditional French sunburst designs.
The elaborate frame is embellished with alternating long and short rays, each individually shaped with pointed, serrated edges and finely carved detailing reminiscent of stylized foliage. The central convex glass is enclosed within a molded circular surround decorated with radiating fluted motifs, adding texture and depth to the composition.
The mirror retains a rich, rubbed gold leaf painted finish with warm bronze undertones and subtle variations in tone, highlighting the carved details and giving the piece an attractive aged appearance. The convex glass adds visual interest through its gently curved reflective surface.
Inspired by the radiant sun emblem associated with Louis XIV, the Sun King, sunburst mirrors became enduring decorative elements in French interiors and enjoyed renewed popularity during the mid-20th century.
The vintage mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a beautifully patinated gilt finish. Ideal for an entryway, powder room, living room, or gallery wall, this decorative antique-inspired mirror brings warmth and architectural interest to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
