Mid-Century French Charles X Style Burl Elm Three-Drawer Chest Commode
$2,900
About
Crafted in France circa 1950, this elegant Charles X style chest showcases the dramatic beauty of richly figured burl elm. The entire case is veneered in warm honey-toned burl, displaying swirling grain, organic knots, and striking movement across the top, drawer fronts, and sides. The rectangular top features subtly chamfered front corners and a gently projecting edge, resting above three drawers framed with clean architectural molding. The façade is balanced and symmetrical, allowing the natural depth and character of the veneer to remain the focal point. Simple round iron knobs provide understated contrast while preserving the purity of the design. The drawers are constructed in solid wood with dovetail joinery, and the back is paneled in solid wood, reflecting quality mid-20th century French craftsmanship. The surface retains a luminous polish that enhances the dimensional quality of the burl. The piece is in excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use. At 39 inches wide and 28 inches high, this versatile chest works beautifully as a generous bedside table or nightstand, a substantial occasional side table, or a compact commode in a powder room or living space. Its proportions offer meaningful storage while maintaining an elegant, tailored presence. Dimensions: 39.5″W x 18.5″D x 28.25″H
