Mid-Century French Gothic Revival Six-Light Iron Chandelier
$1,200
About
This antique French chandelier blends Gothic Revival character with a restrained, architectural silhouette. Crafted in France circa 1940, the six-light fixture is constructed of hand-wrought iron with a naturally aged dark patina and contrasting gilt accents. The chandelier features an open elongated frame decorated with pierced quatrefoil motifs, a traditional Gothic ornament associated with medieval architecture. Six candle arms extend around the perimeter, each terminating in a cylindrical iron cage embellished with stylized gilt fleur-de-lis details. Curled terminals beneath the lights and graceful scrollwork throughout soften the strong geometric construction and add visual movement. The chandelier is suspended from four substantial iron chains joined beneath a sculptural central canopy fitting and matching chain. Cream-colored candle sleeves complete the fixture and complement its warm, timeworn finish. The combination of dark iron, worn gilding, fleur-de-lis decoration, and quatrefoil cutouts gives the piece an authentic Old World appearance. Ideal above a dining table, kitchen island, breakfast table, or in a wine cellar or country house interior, this distinctive six-light chandelier is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with expected oxidation and wear to the original finish. Dimensions: 34.25” W x 20” D x 13.25” H
