Mid-Century French Green Terracotta Olive Jar from Provence
$1,100
About
This antique earthenware olive oil jar was created in Southern France, circa 1950. Made of blond clay and deep green in color, the terracotta vase has a traditional round shape. The rustic, time-worn pot features a green glaze around the neck and trim, and a natural beige tone throughout the body. Overall, this petite ceramic jar is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich, aged patinated finish. The contrast between the textured earthenware base and the vibrant glaze creates a visually appealing rustic charm. Hole on the bottom for drainage. In the south of France and especially in Biot (small village on the French Riviera), these olive pots are also known as the “king of jars,” and were used to transport olive oil in the 17th and 18th century. Could be used as an umbrella stand. Measures: 15.5″ diameter 19.5″ height.
