Mid-Century French Louis XV Silvered Bronze Surtout with Glass Bowl
$1,600
About
This elegant mid-century French Louis XV-style surtout de table, crafted circa 1950, makes a refined centerpiece for a dining table, console, bar, or wine room. Made of silvered bronze, the piece stands on a sculptural tripod base with scrolling acanthus feet, a pierced apron, and richly modeled rocaille details. The vertical support is formed as intertwined grapevines, beautifully cast with leaves, tendrils, and clusters of grapes in high relief, giving the piece a graceful wine-country character.
The removable circular glass bowl rests in a fitted silvered bronze collar at the top, making the centerpiece both decorative and functional. It could be used to display fruit, flowers, floating candles, or simply as a sculptural table accent. The silvered surface has developed a rich patinated finish with soft oxidation, adding depth and antique character while highlighting the crisp casting throughout. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this French centerpiece brings together Louis XV ornament, vineyard symbolism, and practical decorative appeal.
