Mid-Century Italian Deruta Style Hand-Painted Faience Harvest Charger
$975
About
This impressive Italian charger captures the rhythm of rural life through a colorful series of hand-painted seasonal scenes. Crafted in Italy circa 1970, the large circular faience platter is decorated with four charming vignettes arranged around a bold central yellow rosette. The scenes depict traditional agricultural activities including field cultivation, tree cutting and pruning, wheat harvesting, and the gathering and processing of fruit, creating a lively celebration of the countryside and the harvest season.
Executed entirely by hand in the decorative tradition associated with Deruta maiolica, the charger displays a rich palette of leafy greens, golden yellows, soft blues, terracotta, and plum beneath a glossy glazed finish. Scrolling foliage, flowers, lemons, strawberries, chestnuts, and other fruit motifs frame the individual scenes, while green and yellow bands encircle the rim and emphasize the platter’s generous scale.
The reverse is finished in white glaze, marked “Made in Italy,” and fitted with a wire hanger for wall display. Equally striking displayed vertically or used as a dramatic centerpiece on a dining or harvest table, this vintage decorative charger brings warmth and authentic Italian character to Mediterranean, Tuscan, traditional, and country interiors.
The antique-inspired platter is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with vibrant hand-painted decoration and a beautifully preserved glazed finish.
