Mid-Century Italian Painted Demi-Lune Commode with Floral and Figural Panel
$2,400
About
This elegant antique commode was crafted in Italy, circa 1950. Built in a classic bombe form, the serpentine façade features three central drawers flanked by curved cabinet doors on each side, all raised on cabriole legs. The case is richly decorated with hand-painted floral garlands across the drawer fronts, while each side panel showcases romantic figural scenes in the 18th-century taste, framed within softly distressed painted reserves.
The warm ochre ground is enhanced with a subtle craquelure finish, adding depth and character, while the shaped apron and carved legs are further accented with delicate painted motifs. The drawers are fitted with decorative metal pulls, and the side doors open to reveal interior shelving, offering practical storage alongside its decorative appeal.
The top features a shaped front following the bombe silhouette and is finished in a complementary natural tone, creating a pleasing contrast with the painted base. Versatile in use, the commode could be placed in a bedroom, entry, or living space, and would also make a charming powder room vanity with the addition of a sink.
The commode is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a warm and rich patinated painted finish.
